Universal Pictures Germany

Universal Pictures Germany ist ein Tochterunternehmen der Universal Pictures International Entertainment (UPIE), die wiederum zum amerikanischen Medienkonzern NBC Universal gehört.

Die Musikfirma PolyGram (Joint-Venture von Philipps und Siemens) gründete 1980 zusammen mit Peter Guber die Firma PolyGram Pictures. Bei dieser Neugründung wurden die beiden Firmen Casablanca Records (im Besitz von Neil Bogart) und Film Works (im Besitz von Peter Guber) eingebracht.

Im Jahr 1987 wurden PolyGram sowie PolyGram Pictures 100%ige Tochtergesellschaften des Philipps-Konzerns.

Zwischen 1997 und 1998 erfolgte die Umbenennung in PolyGram Filmed Entertainment (PFE).

Der Mutterkonzern PolyGram wurde Ende 1998 von Seagram, den Besitzern von Universal, aufgekauft. Seagram hatte eigentlich vorgesehen, die Firma weiterzuverkaufen. Da sich jedoch kein Käufer gefunden hatte, entschieden sie sich, PolyGram sowie ihre Tochterunternehmen in die Universal-Gruppe einzugliedern.

Am 1. Juli 1999 wurde PolyGram Filmed Entertainment umbenannt in Universal Pictures Video (UPV). Im Zuge dessen wurde die internationale Tätigkeit ausgelagert und Universal Pictures International Video (UPIV) gegründet.

The music company PolyGram (joint venture of Philipps and Siemens) founded PolyGram Pictures together with Peter Guber in 1980. In this re-foundation, the two companies Casablanca Records (owned by Neil Bogart) and Film Works (owned by Peter Guber) were brought in.

In 1987 PolyGram and PolyGram Pictures became wholly owned subsidiaries of the Philipps Group.

Between 1997 and 1998, the company was renamed PolyGram Filmed Entertainment (PFE).

The parent company PolyGram was bought up by Seagram, the owners of Universal, at the end of 1998. Seagram had actually intended to resell the company. However, since no buyer had been found, they decided to incorporate PolyGram and its subsidiaries into the Universal group.

On the 1st July 1999, PolyGram Filmed Entertainment was renamed Universal Pictures Video (UPV). In the course of this, the international activities were outsourced and Universal Pictures International Video (UPIV) was founded.
