Shoutarou ISHINOMORI (Person)

Shoutarou Ishinomori ist ein japanischer Mangaka. Er gilt als der Begründer des Sentai-Genres und wird auch als der »König des Manga« bezeichnet. Sein bekanntestes Werk ist »Cyborg 009«. Er machte sich schon sehr früh als Entwickler neuer Techniken in der Welt des Manga einen Namen. Sein Einfluss auf das Science-Fiction-Genre ist vergleichbar mit jenem von Osamu Tezuka, der eine große Inspirationsquelle für ihn war.

Ishinomori wuchs als ältester Sohn von sechs Kindern in Ishinomori, Präfektur Miyagi, auf und besuchte die Sanuma-Oberschule. Bereits als Schüler schickte er einige Arbeiten an die Zeitschrift Manga Shounen, in der 1954 sein erster Manga veröffentlicht wurde. Nach dem Schulabschluss zog er nach Tokyo, um dort professioneller Mangaka zu werden.

Zu Beginn zeichnete er noch hauptsächlich Shoujo-Manga, die wenig erfolgreich waren. Als er begann, Shounen-Manga zu zeichnen, kam auch der Erfolg. Mit »Cyborg 009« schaffte er dann den Durchbruch. In den 80er-Jahren veröffentlichte er seine Werke hauptsächlich in Seinen-Magazinen. Mit seinem Werk »Japan GmbH« begründete er das Genre des Sach-Mangas. Darin geht es um die Darstellung des japanischen Wirtschaftswesens.

Ishinomori starb im Alter von 60 Jahren an Herzversagen.

Zu seinen Ehren wurde im Jahr 2001 in Ishinomaki das »Ishinomori Manga Museum« eröffnet.

Ende 2007 wurde seine persönliche Sammlung, »Ishinomori Shoutarou Manga Daizenshuu«, die 770 Werke in 500 Bänden und 128.000 Seiten umfasst, vom Guinness-Buch der Rekorde als Rekord für die meisten von einem einzigen Autor veröffentlichten Mangas anerkannt.

Shoutarou Ishinomori is a Japanese mangaka. He is considered the founder of the Sentai genre and is also called the “King of Manga”. His best-known work is “Cyborg 009”. He made a name for himself very early on as a developer of new techniques in the world of manga. His influence on the science fiction genre is comparable to that of Osamu Tezuka, who was a great source of inspiration for him.

Ishinomori grew up as the eldest son of six children in Ishinomori, Miyagi Prefecture, and attended Sanuma High School. While still a student, he sent some work to Manga Shounen magazine, where his first manga was published in 1954. After finishing school, he moved to Tokyo to become a professional mangaka.

In the beginning, he mainly drew shoujo manga, which was not very successful. When he began to draw shounen manga, success followed. His breakthrough came with “Cyborg 009”. In the 1980s, he published his works mainly in Seinen magazines. With his work “Japan Inc.: An Introduction to Japanese Economics”, he founded the genre of non-fiction manga. It deals with the depiction of the Japanese economy.

Ishinomori died of heart failure at the age of 60.

The “Ishinomori Manga Museum” was opened in his honour in Ishinomaki in 2001.

In late 2007, his personal collection, “Ishinomori Shoutarou Manga Daizenshuu”, comprising 770 works in 500 volumes and 128,000 pages, was recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records as the record for the most manga published by a single author.
